A baby wren graces my garden

How delightful it was today to watch a family of Superb Fairy Wrens flit amongst the flowers in my garden. By the time I raced for my camera and returned the only one left was this little fluffy baby, perhaps a little too scared to take off from his safe place.  So vulnerable and at the same time so resilient. My bird book describes their call as 'thin zizzing musical trills' and confirms that they do indeed inhabit open forest, swamps, coastal areas, rain forest and yes...gardens.

The day started out fine then a misty rain crept up the valley towards us.
By late afternoon it had cleared to a wispy duvet of cloud hovering over the farmland.
A sliver of moon was visible in the soft pink evening sky.

I'll see if I can catch the colourful adult male in my camera for you next week.  He's a stunner!

  2. The baby wren is so cute and fluffy. Wrens are so difficult to photograph I find as they dance and twitter about, never still for long enough to focus on them! But your baby ... is perfect.

    1. I know exactly what you mean, they are tricky just like butterflies! They can lead you a merry dance and still no result. Most frustrating! I was definitely happy to catch this one.

  3. I have resident Carolina wrens here - they've been making my front porch their home for several years! They are my favorite garden birds and I could watch them for hours - it they'd stay around!

Oh Jane, the scenery is so beautiful there - your photos are reminding me of my all too short visit a couple of years back. Would love to come back some day - if only it wasn't so far!

    Hugs - Mary

    1. Carolina wrens sound interesting Mary, I will have to have a look. Yes it is a long way, but worth the journey I know you'd agree! Come back soon we hope.

  4. What a lovely picture of the Wren which looks very similar to the Wren in the UK. We have one in our garden which hops around the pots and containers looking for food - I saw it the other day with a huge caterpillar that it was having trouble with pulling apart as it was almost as big as him!

    1. They are very similar Elaine, except when you see the male who has bright blue markings! I bet your visitor enjoyed his juicy caterpillar in the end.
