Smell the beauty

TV's blaring......but all I can think of is these rock orchids (dendrobium speciosa)....their all-pervading fragrance...shape, colour..... glowing with the promise of Spring......

Forget the TV and all those ads, nature has the answer.

Do you have a favourite escape from the everyday?

  2. Hi Jane, they are beautiful, I wish that you could bottle up the fragrance and send it along in your post. I love sitting on the back porch. Watching the squirrels and listening to the birds.
Last night we had a horrible storm, with high winds, lightening and thunder. The power was off for 4 hours and the air outside was so fresh, that we decided to sit out on the porch, and watch the lightening show, but after seeing how our big trees in the back were being blown around, we decided it might be safer in the house. This morning our backyard is covered in tree branches. So, you know what I'll be doing today, LOL.
Have a fun filled day and enjoy your up coming Spring weather.
    Your blogging sister, Connie :)

    1. Oh my goodness Connie, I hope you managed to clean up OK and there wasn't too much damage. Nature can be pretty wild too can't it?
Sitting on the porch watching sqirrels must be magic.

  3. Dear Jane,
as in Berlin summer is turning slowly into autumn, I can only dream of such sweet smelling orchids - and sunshine gets rarer. The favourite escape at the moment is going into an interesting café und feel the hot liquid in my mouth.

  4. This Dendrobium is looking gorgeaus, never saw so many flowers on one plant and........it is growing outside! So very interesting. We have in our neighbourhood many orchid growers who grow the most beautiful orchids in glasshouses, but nothing can touch orchids growing outside in the wild. My favourite escape from the everyday is sitting in my greenhouse, looking at my special roses and clematises.

    1. I bet your green house is a beautiful spot Janneke!
Here we are sub tropical so only a few orchids grow outside naturally, like these ones and a lovely orange blossom orchid.

  6. Oh Jane, are those orchids growing out of the tree trunk by chance? They are so beautiful. Do they have a perfume? Just awesome flowers.

Yes, your Spring is imminent while here we are preparing for Autumn beauty as the trees will soon start changing as the nights cool down. "September Song" comes to mind, and pumpkins line the country roadside stands. I love Autumn. I guess my favorite escape right now is sitting in the gazebo with a nice cup of tea, late afternoon as the sun drops down and the birds start their evening songs, just relaxing before making dinner. After all, there really is no place like home!

    Happy week dear - Mary

    1. Ooh I'd love to join you in your gazebo for a cuppa Mary ~ sounds gorgeous!
These orchids do grow in the forests around here, but we put these into an old pine tree on our driveway, and there is also a large clump under the orange tree. Yes they have a heady perfume when the sun is on them, quite delicious!

    1. I thought I'd replied twice to your cheeky comment Willow! Where did it go? Must be hiding with you behind the orchid, or possibly flown off with the Black Cockatoo! I'll get to that post, honest I will....just trying to get a nice photo of one flying, they are tricky to get. Thanks for the prompt :)) Jane

  11. I have not had the pleasure to really enjoy the outdoors for a year now. I am waiting for knee surgery for an old injury. I am blessed that all I have to do is look out my widow, any window, and I see trees. It's still green out there; the leaves have not started falling. Any day now... My favourite place is researching the universe, multiverse, time, space, string theory, dark matter etc. I keep waiting for the Sun's predicted hissy fits, but they have been disappointingly absent. So I gaze up at the night sky from my porch and sigh. I love your posts Jane.

    1. Oh dear I'm sorry about your knee Zsuzsa, and hope that you won't have to wait too much longer for that surgery. What a wonderful thing that you have trees in every direction.
I am impressed with your fascination for the big wide universe. I can see you sitting on your porch gazing at the sky and hopefully you are eating a tiny slice of one of your delicious cakes :) Can I join you? Bye for now, Jane.

  12. Your rock orchids are glorious. Have coddled some here in Canberra but no luck with flowering, gave some to my lovely neighbour and she put me to shame. Seriously, it was wonderful looking at your photos after watching the Art of Australia. You have a gift and I look forward to seeing more of your images. :)

    1. It's funny Susan, last year we had no flowers on the rock orchids at all but this year they were fantastic. So maybe next year for yours? I'm so glad you enjoy my photos, and wasn't that program a pleasure to watch. I don't often sit and watch from start to finish, but Art of Australia I did. I look forward to getting more inspiration from your blog ~ your latest post fired me up to get going! I won't be hiding behind the rock lilies for too long!
