Waiting

Doctor's appointments are renowned for being delayed so it was no surprise when I turned up to be told that the doctor was running a little late and perhaps I'd like to go and have a coffee and they would phone me when it was my turn.  I had a coffee before I left home to drive the 40 minutes down the winding mountain road through rain forest towards the coast and my appointment in the little town of Bellingen.  So I grabbed my umbrella and knowing my camera was in my handbag I wandered down the side street to see what I could see.

With no expectations I wasn't disappointed.
Tin roofed cottages brimming with spring flowers, sweet smelling jasmine, delicious wisteria,
azaleas and buttery banksia rose, rainbow lorikeets feasting on grevillea's nectar.
Mallard-type ducks puddling about close to the creek,
and all the time looming clouds promising rain.

In no time at all my phone was ringing and I fumbled to answer it with camera and umbrella in hand!  The waiting was over and it was my turn next.  Shucks!  I hurried back disappointed to have to leave but realising that sometimes waiting can be enjoyable.

What do you do when you have to wait for an appointment?
Do you carry a book to keep you amused or start up a conversation,
or perhaps you browse through a magazine?
I hope you don't sit and get agitated!

Bye for now

  1. What a great way to spend time waiting for your appointment and how nice for them to offer to call you. Beats getting a touch of the white coat syndrome, which I get :) I usually take my iPad now that all waiting areas seem to have wifi connections.

    1. Yes you're right Denise, they are very good there and kind. I hope you don't get tooooo worried :) I think I've got to take the plunge and get an iPad too, very handy for that sort of occasion, and many more besides.

  2. Oooh.
Much, much better than any doctor's waiting room.
I usually have a book in my bag, but like your alternative. Rather a lot. Except that it isn't nearly as scenic around my doctor's rooms.

    1. No, it depends on where you are that's for sure! I struck it lucky this day.

  4. I thoroughly enjoyed your "wait". Bellingen is such a pretty place, and spring time makes it even more captivating.

    1. Bellingen is indeed a lovely place and I think jacaranda time in a month or so is pretty special too.

  5. In this way waiting is no pain. I love the photos of those surroundings. The Grevilleas with the rainbow lorikeet so beautiful, this kind of things we only see in a zoo or birdhouse. The banksia rose together with the orange abutilon, you definitely have a wonderful spring.

    1. Thank you for reminding me of the name abutilon Janneke....I couldn't remember it! The weather changed briefly to very cold but I think we are back on track for spring again now.

  6. This look like the best ever way to wait for your appointment! The joy of mobile phones! Sometimes I take hand sewing, or browse their magazines or scan through Instagram - sometimes all three!

    1. Yes, it's hard to imagine life without a mobile phone now isn't it Karen, although I must admit to using it as little as possible to the annoyance of my family! You sound as though you are very organised for such an eventuality.

  7. So glad you had your camera with you to share these delightful pictures. We don't usually get told how long the delay will be so I usually sit and browse through the magazines! Sarah x

    1. Thanks Sarah. It's funny how you learn what the doctor is interested in by the magazines in the waiting room, our dentist has bicycling mags and National Geographics. It's not much good if it's full of motorbike mags or something but I love it if there are gardening ones there!

  8. Hello Jane, Hope this finds you well. Beautiful time of year spring is. As usual, beautiful photographs. I never mind the wait. I take along one of my books. I read more than one book at a time.

    1. How funny you say that Zsuzsa...so do I! I kind of dig into books and flip around and have to be in the right mood, hence novels take me for ever to read! Good that you've always go something to fill in the wait time.

  9. If they made everyone wander around enjoying their surroundings instead of slumping in a waiting room they'd probably have fewer patients. Ever the optimist I never take anything to occupy myself while I wait but spend my waiting time people watching.

    1. Good idea about getting us all out and walking Anne! And people watching is a favourite pastime of mine too

  10. What a lovely and rewarding walk, Jane. I usually just take out my crochet or a book and try to forget where I am.

  13. Beautiful photos Jane. Bellingen is such a pretty town. It's a few years since I've visited but always enjoy it when I do.
What I do while waiting? Sometimes write in a journal, often people watch :-)

    1. Hi Gail, writing in a journal....that is something I do much too intermittently I'm afraid. I start out with enthusiasm and 'things' get in the way :-)

  14. I usually catch up on some Royal or celebrity gossip in a magazine since I never buy anything like that! Half the time I don't even know who most of the celebs are though...
thanks for stopping by and visiting my side of the world. It's funny how your growing year is just beginning as ours is ending. Lovely little houses and the wisteria is heavenly!

    1. I had to laugh at your celebs comment Kerry....I am exactly the same way! I love visiting your blog because you photograph and write about your world so beautifully, and there are so many similarities with where I live.

  15. Dear Jane I hope you are well -- whatever reason keeps you from posting -- may it be light and easy -- I am missing your beautiful photo essays of the world. I wish you the very best in the New Year. Hugs.

    1. Dear Zsuzsa, what a kind and thoughtful lady you are. I am fine, just that farming and family have taken up my time and the longer I keep from posting the harder it is to get back in again. I really appreciate your message and I wish you every health and happiness in 2016 XX

  16. I haven't checked back through your blog yet to see what's been happening, but I saw your comment at Joanna's and wanted to wave with pleasure, like when you see a friend sitting in a café across the road but you can't pop in to say hello. And what do I find when I pop over - lorikeets, floral treasure and a soul-lifting stroll through warmer climes! Your blog's a tonic - though the reference to the doctor's is a worry. I hope we can catch up on your news later, but it's my first day back on my laptop and already I've overdone it! Hours online, and I've no idea how!
