Time to Reflect.

The sun was already low in the west when I closed the door on the farm accounts, escaping to stretch my legs and breathe some fresh air.  The dog leaped out from under the house, tail wagging. He finds book work boring too!

A kookaburra kept one eye on us as we passed him by,
but his gaze was out to the distance.

Down the hill we went at a spritely pace towards the dam
 surrounded by gum trees.

Cobba  frightened a pair of ducks and they took off  in an excited flap to circle above us. Tiny flying insects and water boatmen, and the plop of a water dragon launching from the bank, were all that remained.

Clouds reflected in the rippled water

Cobba waited for me ~  not so patiently!

Gum leaves wafted in the breeze as I trudged up the hill.

There's always something to catch your eye
(and let you get your breath back!) on the way up.

The sun was setting as I reached home, lovely soft soothing colours.
I fed the dog, brought in some wood,
and headed inside without another thought.

As I am about to publish this post I am sitting with a heat pack on my lower back, having done too much in the garden yesterday.  My back is now suffering the consequences.

It has made me think about just how much I take for granted every day ...... being able to go for a walk, bend down to pick up a feather, reach up to study leaves on a tree....things that you don't think about until you can't do them. For me it is just temporary, but others are not so lucky.  I hope that I will appreciate these things just a little more now.

How about you?

  5. Hi Jane,
I so enjoyed looking at the wonderful photos of the beautiful place you live in. I often think mild ailments give us useful pause for thought and reflection- I always feel more grateful for good health after it's been a teeny weeny bit threatened. CT :-)

    1. Thank you so much Janneke, I am feeling a bit better now, though not ready for gardening yet. Not easy to take photos with a dog jumping up at you! You do a surprisingly good job :))

  7. Dear, I know exactly what putting ones back out feels like, done it often and it takes me about three days to get over it! Gardening is often the cause, but recently it occurred when shaving my legs in the tub, heck what else can go wrong!!! Get well soon - especially in time for lifting the new baby soon!
At present I'm also feeling lousy with a flare-up of PMR (see my last post) and hoping to get it sorted regarding medication dosage. As you say, we take good health for granted until it throws us a curve!

Meanwhile, thank you for sharing more beautiful images of the scenery around your home - lovely water and sky shots, and the kookaburra shot is great - I recall how noisy they were in the trees when I was visiting the countryside near Brisbane, and I could never get a good shot of them as they seemed to flutter about on the branches.

Hope this week finds you feeling great again.
    Hugs - Mary

  15. Hi there - thanks for the follow on my photo-blog. If you have time you may also enjoy my "wordy" blog - which as the name suggests has more words than pictures.

You live in a great looking part of Australia - and one that I have yet to visit. I may have to ask for advice.

    Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne

PS: just spent best part of six weeks getting over a cracked bone in amy ankle - over doing it can be a real pain!

  16. Hello Jane, This post is outstanding. I love your photography. You have an eye for nature and find beauty in everything around you. I love the reflections in the water and the bark on the tree. Your photos could double your continent's tourist trade, they are so amazing.

Thanks for the sweet visit, it is always a pleasure to hear from you. There is a magic that happens when I tie an apron around my waist that says this is going to be a great meal. It's a Betty Crocker thing, LOL I'm happy to hear that you also wear an apron and that I'm not the only one :)
Butchy has bounced back so fast, that he has even surprised his Vets.

I imagine that you are looking forward to spring and gardening. It will be wonderful visiting this winter when we are covered in snow and chili temperatures. That's when I'll be enjoying your flowers again :)
    Have a lovely weekend.
    Your blogging sister, Connie :)

  17. Dear Connie ~ thank you so much for your lovely words. Your visits always make me feel good! The best thing about aprons is being able to pop everything but the kitchen sink into the pocket & know you'll find it again! Lovely sharing with you from the other side of the ocean and so glad that Butchy is going so well. Bye for now Jane x
